This week we focus on the positions of the leading TCR South America drivers in the TCR World Ranking – following on from Pedro Aizza’s confirmation as the series’ revelation driver of the year, and with José Manuel Sapag being awarded with the best overtaking manoeuvre prize.
Aizza himself is placed in 96th position this week, taking his best points haul of the year with second place at the Termas de Río Hondo endurance race, where he shared his Hyundai Elantra with then to-be WTCR champion Mikel Azcona.
PMO Motorsport star Sapag is 44th in the ranking after a consistent season with the Lynk & Co and is therefore the third-best placed of the TCR South America regulars in the TCR World Ranking.
The best-placed of the drivers from TCR South America’s 2022 season, not counting the series’ high-profile guest stars from the world category, are Sapag’s team-mate and series champion Fabricio Pezzini, who is in 20th position, with his CUPRA-equipped rival Raphael Reis a little way behind him in 38th.
There were a number of new drivers running at the front of the series in 2022, and some are yet to get to the critical twenty results threshold which will help ensure they have a representative place in the classification; for example, Honda driver Juan Ángel Rosso, who finished second in the championship with four wins and is ranked 48th but is on a steep upward trajectory.
