Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo is the venue for TCR Spain’s pre-season event this weekend that will feature a pair of races, one on Saturday afternoon and one on Sunday morning.
Intended as a test in view of the actual championship season that will kick off at Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona on March 14/16, this event has attracted a number of newcomers and gives competitors the opportunity to get used to the new qualifying format that is based on two back-to-back 15-minute sessions, each one determining the grid for one of the two races.
Among the entries are some series’ regulars such as Felipe and Victor Fernández in the Honda Civic FL5 cars run by RC2 Motorsport who are joined by Sandro Pelatti, the TCR driver who had amassed the largest number of race starts – 29 – in 2024. Another returnee, also in a Honda Civic car, is ALM Motorsport’s Ruben Volt, who was a title contender in last year’s TCR Europe and TCR Italy.
Last but not least, coming from TCR UK, Steven Laidlaw and his son Sam will make their maiden Spanish appearance at the wheel of two CUPRA Leon VZ cars run by Area Motorsport.
One of the most interesting newcomers is Colombia’s youngster Juan Felipe ‘Pipe’ Pedraza, the 2022 Formula F4 NACAM champion, who will drive a RX Pro Racing Hyundai i30 N in his TCR debut.
