TCR Denmark kicks off at Padborg Park

06 May 2022

TCR Denmark’s third season kicks off this weekend at Padborg Park with the reigning champion Kasper H. Jensen attempting to extend his winning streak to a third consecutive title.

Jensen has changed team, from Massive Motorsport with which he won the 2020 and 2021 championships, to the newly founded GMB Motorsport, but has remained faithful to the Honda Civic Type R car. He has been joined by Gustav Birch, the winner of last year’s Under 23 Trophy.

Competition will be fierce, with nineteen cars on the grid for the season opener and six different brands represented: Alfa Romeo, Audi, CUPRA, Honda, Hyundai and Peugeot.

Philip Lindberg brings a Hyundai car back in the series, driving a i30 N for Outzen Motorsport. But Jensen’s most serious contenders appear to be last year’s vice-champion Michael Markussen, Nicolai Sylvest who was classified third in 2020 and fourth in 2021, René Povlsen and Jacob Mathiassen.

Markussen has swapped his Peugeot 308 for a CUPRA Leon Competición run by his own squad; also in a Spanish car is Sylvest who races for the new Green Development team. Povlsen is at the wheel of a second-generation Audi RS 3 LMS entered by Meteor Racing, while Mathiassen leads the Insight Racing trio of Alfa Romeo Giulietta cars.

The event format continues to feature three races on Sunday.
