TCR cars dominate the 24-hour race in Mexico City

TCR competition is due to kick off in Mexico in 2024, following an agreement between WSC Group and the National Sporting Authority OMDAI for the establishment of a TCR class in the frame of the Copa Noti Auto.

The first step was the participation of TCR cars in the 24 Endurance Mexico race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez last week. Sixteen teams entered in the class, with the field including five second-generation Audi RS 3 LMS cars, six CUPRA Leon Competición cars, two Hyundai Elantra N cars, one Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce, one Honda Civic Type R FK7 and one Volkswagen Golf GTI.

The TCR machines dominated the event, filling the first four spots of the overall classification at the end of the 24 hours, with the ProRally-run CUPRA cars finishing 1-2.

Victory went to the #17 that Mexican drivers Carlos Martínez and Sebastián Álvarez shared with the Uruguaian pair of Felipe Güelfi and Daniel Alfredo Fresnedo who covered 603 laps, six more than the sister #55 car of Gerardo Rejón, Gerardo Rejón jr., Rodrigo Rejón and Julio Rejón. The podium was completed by Carlos Pani, Juan Carlos Peralta, Luís Diaz and Alejandro Pimentel in the Peralta Racing Giulietta.

Besides the winning Uruguayans, the event attracted a bunch of foreign competitors such as the Dutchman Niels Langeveld in the Honda entered by Giada Racing-MM, Todd Sloan from USA in the Elantra run by Orea Ross Racing in cooperation with IMSA multiple champion Bryan Herta Autosport, and the team RE Motorsport Colombia with its Golf GTI.
