Scalvini and Tavano take win for Wimmer Werk Motorsport
Eric Scalvini and Salvatore Tavano won the TCR European Endurance third round at Vallelunga. It was their first victory in the series at the wheel of their Wimmer Werk Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competición, as they were able to beat the strong opposition of the BRC Squadra Corse Hyundai Elantra shared by Néstor Girolami and Viktor Davidovski.
The result helped the pair to cut the gap in the standings to 24 points behind Yuri Brigliadori ahead of the season finale that will be at Misano on November 14/15.
Scalvini started on pole in the first leg, but Girolami passed him before T2 to lead the field. The Argentine amassed a 16-second advantage before the mandatory pit-stop when he was replaced by Davidovski, while Tavano took over in the CUPRA. The former TCR Italy champion began to bite into Davidovski advantage and took the lead in lap 25, with ten minutes left on the clock. He easily pulled asway and won by 6.6 seconds, while Alessandro Alcidi completed the podium in the BF Motorsport-run Audi he shared with Brigliadori.
Tavano took the start for the second leg, leading from Alcidi and Davidovski; positions did not change until the pit stop window that was opened by Davidovski who handed the car to Girolami who had to fill a 12-second gap from the leading car now driven by Scalvini. Girolami passed Brigliadori who had replaced Alcidi and closed in on Scalvini but eventually was only able to cut the gap down to 4.2 seconds under the chequered flag.
