Former Touring Car world champion and Le Mans 24H winner José María ‘Pechito’ López will make his TCR debut this weekend in the TCR South America and TCR Brasil joint event at Buenos Aires.

López will be at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla GRS run by the Toyota Team Argentina alongside TCR South America race winner and title contender Matías Rossi. The 41-year-old Argentine driver had clinched three consecutive World Touring Car titles for Citroën between 2014 and 2016 before joining the Toyota Gazoo Racing squad with which he won the 2021 Le Mans 24H and two World Endurance Championship titles.

Another TCR debutant in the event at the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez will be Jacobo ‘Jake’ Cosío in another Toyota entered by Paladini Racing, joining the team’s regulars Juan Ángel Rosso and Diego Gutierrez. Cosío, 36-year-old, is the first Mexican driver to join TCR South America and has previously raced in different Mexican series: Super Touring, Copa TC2000 and Nascar.
