Norbert Michelisz looks for victory on home ground

20 August 2021

For rounds 7 and 8, the WTCR returns to the Hungaoring, one of its traditional venues.
Former champion and local hero Norbert Michelisz will try to take advantage of the home ground to score his first win in the current season at the wheel of his BRC Squadra Corse Hyundai Elantra N. Other favourites of Hungarian fans are Attila Tassi who has already won at Estoril in his Honda Civic Type R run by Münnich Motorsport and Bence Boldizs who drives a CUPRA Leon Competición for Zengő Motorsport.
The standings are led by Jean-Karl Vernay (Engstler Motorsport, Hyundai Elantra N) with 82 points, eight more than the reigning champion Yann Ehrlacher (Cyan Racing, Lynk & Co 03). Ehrlacher's teammates Yvan Muller and Santiago Urrutia follow in fourth and fifth, 15 and 22 points behind the leader, while Gabriele Tarquini (BRC Squadra Corse, Hyundai Elantra N) is sixth, two further points adrift.
Last year, the WTCR held three races at the Hungaroring: Esteban Guerrieri (Münnich Motorsport, Honda Civic) won the first and the third, while Ehrlacher was victorious in the second.
At the Hungaroring, the 2017 TCR Italy champion Nicola Baldan will make his WTCR debut at the wheel of a Target Competition Hyundai Elantra N.
