There were some big moves in this week’s Kumho TCR World Ranking, coming from drivers competing in both of the TCR Italy events at Vallelunga, as well as in TCR UK at Thruxton.
ALM Motorsport’s Levente Losonczy has broken into the top 50 of the ranking after claiming his maiden win in TCR Italy, following on from his two TCR Europe series victories earlier this year at Zolder and Brno. The Hungarian rising star and member of JAS Motorsport’s Driver Development Programme climbed 27 places after his performance at the weekend.
Meanwhile, title contender Nicolas Taylor’s first win of the season, which came in Race 1, moved the Canadian driver up 49 places and he’s already into the top 100.
It wasn’t just a good weekend for the sequential class racers – as DSG championship points leader Luca Franca, podium finisher in Race 1 and winner in Race 2, made a 38-place leap and is now in the top 100 in only his first season of TCR competition.
In TCR UK, while Callum Newsham had a mixed weekend at Thruxton as his title charge took a hit after crashing out in Race 2, his pole to victory performance in Race 1 has helped him climb six places in this week’s ranking to 36th overall. It was also a great weekend for his JH Racing team-mate Darron Lewis, who moved up from 100th to 86th in the ranking.
Steve Laidlaw also claimed his first victory in the third race at the fast Thruxton circuit and continues his ascent up the ranking in his first year of TCR competition, now up to 135th with a 60-place climb.
