Leonel Pernía will join the TCR South America championship from the second event of the season at Cascavel on May 24/26.
The Argentine driver will race for PMO Racing in one of the team’s Peugeot 308 cars, like the one that Pedro Cardoso and Celso Neto co-drove to the second place in the opening event of the season at Interlagos.
Pernía, who had tested the Peugeot at Buenos Aires during the past winter, is one of Argentina’s most experienced and successful Touring Car drivers in activity. He was three times TC2000 champion and in 2010 became the first Argentine to race in an FIA Touring Car World Championship, driving a Chevrolet Cruze at Monza.
“It’s great to join TCR South America, a series that has attracted my attention since it started. I had a very good feeling with the Peugeot during my test, and I love the TCR concept that makes possible to race in every part of the world with the very same car. And racing in the whole South American region is another great motivation. It’s a new experience for me, but I’m looking forward to work with the professional team directed by Damián Fineschi, as we aim together for taking the best out of this opportunity,” said Pernía.
