Niels Langeveld has made it two Dutch drivers in the top ten of the KUMHO TCR World Ranking, after moving up into tenth spot this week following his podium fightback in the second race of the TCR Italy championship at Vallelunga on Sunday. The Honda driver is now the only driver not competing in the KUMHO TCR World Tour to feature in the top ten of the ranking, after displacing Kevin Ceccon.
While Franco Girolami had the stronger weekend, the Argentinian dropped his oldest results which included a win in a strong grid at the Norisring in TCR Europe last year, so has actually slipped back one place to 14th in the ranking this week.
Aurélien Comte, who briefly led the championship after the first race on Saturday, has shot up 24 places to 41st in the ranking, just one place behind fellow Italian series frontrunner Marco Butti.
Meanwhile, a strong finish in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge for Robert Wickens and Harry Gottsacker, which saw the two Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai drivers pick up the series’ drivers’ title has also helped both drivers in the ranking.
With the results spanning back for 20 races, so two full seasons of racing, Wickens’ tally is just 0.1 points more than Gottsacker’s, and so Wickens is now placed as the top driver from the top US endurance series in the ranking in 74th, just one spot ahead of Gottsacker.
