Father and son racing combo Sam and Steven Laidlaw both made great progress in the Kumho TCR World Ranking this week, after the British pair appeared on the podium in both of the races at the TCR Spain pre-season event at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
The pair battled their way forward to finish on the podium twice, with Sam leading his father in Race 1, before Steven led the way in Race 2 when Sam was left to fight newcomer Guillaume Salvodelli.
Sam Laidlaw made the biggest climb of the week, moving up 50 spots to 167th in the ranking, while Steven continues to make progress within the top 100, moving up 26 positions this week to 71st.
French driver Salvodelli was making his TCR competition debut with Team Clairet Sport, and put on a great performance in Spain, narrowly missing the podium after battling with the Laidlaws in the two races. Salvodelli’s ranking points haul sees him come straight in at 348th position.
Another key mover was Sandro Pelatti. The Italian driver was in a RC2 Racing-run Honda Civic Type R FL5, making the switch after he raced both Audi and CUPRA last year. Pelatti, who took part in more TCR races than any other driver in 2024, moved up 11 spots thanks to his pair of fifth place finishes at Valencia, and is up to 114th in the ranking.
Ruben Volt won both races, which was key to keeping the Estonian star in his highly-rated 18th position, with the scores he dropped this week from the 2024 TCR Italy round at Pergusa also of high value in the ranking.
