Kasper H. Jensen claims first win of the season in Copenhagen

07 August 2021

TCR Denmark’s reigning champion Kasper H. Jensen claimed his first victory of the season in the first race on Copenhagen’s street circuit.
Jensen led from the start but made a mistake and dropped to third. However, he benefited from a safety car period and eventually recovered the first position when he passed Michael Markussen two laps from the end.
Jan Magnussen, the current leader of the standings, crashed from the second place and recorded the first retirement during the current season.
Jensen took a better get away than pole sitter Markussen, and took the lead, while Magnussen followed in third position ahead of Kenn Bach, Casper Elgaard and Gustav Birch. During the first lap, Bach brushed the wall and dropped at the back.
In lap 3, Jensen served a drive through for jump start and rejoined behind Magnussen who crashed into the wall, which prompted the safety car into action.
The race resumed in lap 7, with Markussen in the lead, followed by Jensen, Sylvest, Elgaard, Birch, Mathiassen and Louise Frost.
In lap 8, Jensen stole the lead from Markussen, while Mathiassen hit the wall while trying to pass Veljebo for P6.
This is the way they finished, with Jensen crossing the finishing line six tenths ahead of Markussen and Sylvest completing the podium; behind them Birch managed to pass Elgaard for fourth with a daring move.
Race 2 and Race 2 will start tomorrow at 08:55 and 15:00 CEST.
