Jessica Bäckman to race at Anderstorp in TCR Scandinavia

30 May 2019

Jessica Bӓckman will return to the TCR Scandinavia this weekend at Anderstorp, marking two championship firsts - bringing the Hyundai brand onto the grid for the first time, and also with the highest number and proportion of female racing drivers in history for the region.
Fresh off the back of a stunning first podium in the TCR Europe Series last weekend at Hockenheim, Bӓckman will race her Target Competition Hyundai i30 N TCR at the Scandinavia Raceway at Anderstorp this weekend, with the South Korean marque competing in the championship for the first time against the field of Honda, Volkswagen, CUPRA and Audi cars.
Bӓckman raced in both the Scandinavian and UK championships last year for WestCoast Racing in a Volkswagen Golf GTI, but has made the switch to Hyundai this year and has been impressing in the European series.
The 21-year-old from Boden, also made her TCR Germany championship debut two weeks ago at Most and is currently enjoying a busy schedule in only her second full season in Touring Cars having being included in the small group selected by Hyundai Motorsport for the Customer Racing Young Driver programme.
Bӓckman joins fellow female racers Louise Frost and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky on the grid this weekend, the first time three women have raced at the same time in Scandinavian touring car history.

"I’m really looking forward to Anderstorp. It's all been very last-minute, I didn't really expect to be driving this weekend, but I’m very happy to be racing in Sweden again. It will be exciting to see how the car performs at this track. I think the Hyundai will suit a Swedish track better than the Volkswagen I was racing last year. However, we only have two practice sessions to get everything set-up, and it's the first time the team have raced in Sweden as well, but I’ll try and get some good speed in order to qualify well. It’ll also be tough as I’m the only Hyundai, so any set-up changes we want to try can only go on one car, mine! so it’ll be an interesting challenge,” Bäckman said.
