Jack Young took a lights-to-flag victory in TCR Europe’s Race 1 at Barcelona-Catalunya to record his second win of the season; Tom Coronel finished second and the newly-crowned Drivers’ Champion Franco Girolami third scoring the points that gave Comtoyou Racing the Teams’ title.
At the start, pole-sitter Young led the field ahead of Coronel, while a poor start from Isidro Callejas meant he dropped to fifth behind Girolami and Frédéric Vervisch. Callejas soon passed Vervisch for P4, while Josh Files had made up seven places after starting from the back of the grid following an engine change.
By lap 5, Young led Coronel by just over a second in a tight battle that would last for the remainder of the twelve-lap race. One lap later, Mike Halder was attacking Klim Gavrilov for P9 with Files right behind, while on Lap 7 Vervisch passed Callejas for P4.
After Gavrilov and Halder made contact, Files took the opportunity to pass them both, moving into P9.
Over the final few laps, Young’s lead over Coronel shrank to a little over three-tenths and then opened out to over a second in the race’s closing stages. There were no further changes of position among the top ten. Young his second win of the season ahead of Coronel, with Girolami finishing third.
Race 2 is scheduled to start tomorrow at 12:05 local time (CEST) and will be streamed live on TCR TV.
