The Waimarama Racing team scored the first ever victory for Hyundai in the TCR class of the Japanese Super Taikyu series.
Ryusuke Masumoto, Katsumasa Chiyo and Lee Jung Woo drove their Elantra N car to win the fourth round of the series at Sportsland Sugo. During the four-hour race, they completed 153 laps, one more than the M&K Racing Honda Civic Type R FL5 of Mitsuhiro Endo, Shinji Nakano, Jack Young and Kento Omiya that had set the pole position.
The podium was completed by the Team Show Apex Audi RS 3 LMS driven by Genki Nishimura, Ryosuke Kagami, Takahiro Kimura and Masatomo Shimono that crossed the finishing line only 40 seconds behind the Honda.
With this victory, Waimarama Racing moved on top of the standings, nine points ahead of the Birth Racing Project CUPRA of Takashi Kochiya, Takeshi Suehiro-Matsumoto, Jiei Okuzumi and Takahisa Ohno that retired twenty minutes before the end.
The next round is the Autopolis 5H race on July 25/27.
