The Janík Motorsport pair of Mat’o Homola and Adam Kout won both the TCR Eastern Europe races at Autodrom Most, home racetrack for Kout and the team. Homola scored a lights-to-flag victory from pole position in Race 1, his fourth win during the season, while his teammate Kout claimed his first win in a second race that was disrupted by the red flag.
As far as the championship is concerned, Homola has extended his leadership to 26 point over M1RA Motorsport’s Attila Bucsi.
Race 1 – Homola got away well from the pole ahead of Giacomo Ghermandi and Kout; at the end of the straight, as the leaders braked before T1, Ghermandi and Kout made contact, and the Italian driver’s Honda touched the back of Homola’s Hyundai forcing him to cut the chicane. Homola rejoined in the lead with Ghermandi and Kout behind, while Davit Kajaia retired after being involved in a mid-field collision. Homola, Ghermandi and Kout continued to fight and made contact once again, with Ghermandi dropping to fifth behind the pair of René Kircher and Bucsi. In lap 4, Ghermandi’s pace faded, he dropped down and eventually lost one lap after pitting for repairs. Up front, Homola and Kout cruised to finish first and second, while Kircher kept Bucsi at bay to secure the third place.
Race 2 – The front row of the top-ten reversed grid was shared by Jorden Dolischka and Vit Smejkal. At the start, Smejkal was faster than Dolischka who dropped behind Ivars Vallers; behind them there was contact between Ghermandi and Bucsi, with the Hungarian forced to drive wide. During the first lap, Dolischka repassed Vallers for second, while Kout who had had a fast start from P9, took the lead overtaking Dolischka and Smejkal on the outside. At the start of lap 2, Vallers crashed into the barriers, while Smejkal was punted off by Ghermandi. Petr Čížek and Žarko Knego benefited from the situation and advanced to second and third. The safety car was deployed and after one lap the race was red-flagged to recover the cars and repair the barriers. Racing resumed in lap 6 with Kout leading from Čížek, Knego, Kajaia and Homola. In lap 7, Homola passed Kajaia for P4, but the safety car was deployed once again after Ghermandi had stopped on the track. The green flag was waved with less than two minutes to go, but the first three positions did not change; Kout won from Čížek and Knego. Homola was able to keep Kajaia at bay to finish fourth, with Bucsi recovering to fifth.
TCR Eastern Europe will resume on September 6/8 in Brno.
