Holmgaard Motorsport claims first victory in the 24H Series
Holmgaard Motorsport has secured its first win in the 24H Series at an enthralling 12H Spa-Francorchamps, that saw the battle for TCR honours go down to the wire.
The division’s win had looked set to go to the NOKER Racing-run team Volkswagen Golf GTI of Kęstutis Stasionis, Sten Piirimägi and Arūnas Gečiauskas, but with just 90 minutes left the Golf pitted with heavy damage following an on-track collision.
This promoted to the first place the Holmgaard Motorsport Volkswagen Golf driven by Magnus Holmgaard, Jonas Holmgaard, Roy Edland and Martin Vedel Mortensen, with which the Lithuanian team had competed throughout the afternoon. Jonas Holmgaard drove the #102 VW across the line to complete 234 laps of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
GSR Motorsport completed a 1-2 finish for the Volkswagen Golf cars, as Ernesta Globytė, Rolandas Salys and Mindaugas Liatukas finished in second place, three laps behind the winners. Following a post-race penalty, the CUPRA entered by Rail Equip with Totcar Sport of Jorge Belloc Díaz, Jorge Belloc Ruiz and Álvaro Rodríguez Sastre, which had finished second on the road in TCE, was eventually classified 3rd.
After losing significant time to brake failure at the Bus Stop Chicane in the first part of the race, BBR CUPRA Leon Competición of Chariya Nuya, Kantadhee Kusiri, Kantasak Kusiri and Munkong Sathienthirakul completed a flawless Sunday afternoon run to finish 6th and retained the first place in the standings.
The 24H Series will be back in action on 13/15 May with the 12H Hockenheim.
