Hart wins TCR UK’s final race, but Kent is the champion

19 October 2020

After finishing runner up in 2019, Lewis Kent grabbed the TCR UK title with the Hyundai i30 N car run by the Essex & Kent Motorsport team.
Kent has topped the TCR field in six races from seven and only in the last round at Donington Park he was beaten by Max Hart in the Maximum Motorsport CUPRA who claimed his maiden win and secured the second place in the standings.
At the start of the first race, Tim Docker jumped from P4 on the grid to first, but spun at Redgate and his Volkswagen Golf GTI was collected by another car, which caused a red flag and sidelined Docker for the rest of the weekend. When racing resumed Kent and Sam Osbourne collided and dropped behind Hart; they were both able to pass him again, but a broken driveshaft on the final lap denied Osbourne his first TCR UK podium.
In Race 2, Kent and Osbourne resumed their fight for the lead; the latter seemed set to claim his maiden win in the series, but once again his CUPRA lacked reliability and stopped on the penultimate lap, while Kent was able to beat Hart and Darelle Wilson in the final sprint.
Even before the start of the last race, Osbourne’s unlucky days ended with him stopping during the formation lap, again with a broken driveshaft. Kent and Hart had a close fight for victory and eventually it was the Maximum Motorsport driver who claimed his maiden win in TCR UK ahead of Kent who secured the title.
