After a thrilling opening round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Championship at Daytona International Speedway, the Bryan Herta Autosport pairing of Taylor Hagler and Michael Lewis are still the best-placed of the series drivers in the TCR World Ranking this week, but there were some big moves as well.
Hagler and Lewis dropped six places in the ranking, in what was a critical recovery for them as the duo’s Hyundai Elantra suffered a drivetrain issue in the race and lost a number of laps, but after they were able to finish and make the classification, they only lost 2.55 points.
While Gavin Ernstone and Jonathan Morley won the epic encounter, it was the runner-up driver pairing of Mike La Marra and William Tally in the LA Honda World entry who made up some of the most significant gains in the ranking. Tally climbed 154 positions, and now finds himself ranked 487th, while co-driver La Marra is now up to 266th.
Ernstone and Morley’s victory sees them break into the top 100 in the ranking, just one spot behind Roy Block, who was an early retirement in the race despite showing rapid pace in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The Argentine driver dropped 14 positions, while his co-driver Tim Lewis fell 13.
