Gurrieri clinches the Coppa Italia title without racing
Raffaele Gurrieri was surely hoping to celebrate in a different way his title in the Coppa Italia Turismo. Instead, the driver of the Scuderia del Girasole was forced to watch both races from the pits after his CUPRA Leon VZ was damaged beyond repairs in a multi-car accident at the start of Misano Race 1.
Koray Kamiloğlu won both races of the season finale at the wheel of his HK2 Racing Audi RS 3 LMS and climbed to second in the standings ahead of his fellow countryman Ramazan Kaya.
In the second division for DSG cars, Giacomo Orioli and his Audi were also eliminated in the Race 1 incident, but the Planet Motorsport driver had already secured the title after the previous event. Series newcomers Gabriele Giorgi (Faro Racing, Volkswagen Golf GTI) and Orioli’s teammate Tommaso Toldo shared race wins.
Race 1 – Kamiloğlu was on pole and escaped the pile-up at the start that eliminated Gurrieri and the three Audi cars of Kaya, Orioli and Tiziano Bergamasco. When racing resumed after a long safety car period, Kamiloğlu pulled away and took a comfortable win ahead of Giorgi who won the DSG class in his Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Race 2 – At the start, Kaya was punted into a spin and Kamiloğlu, who was sitting again on pole, ran away to encore his Race 1 win. Behind him there was a close battle for the other podium positions. After Orioli and Giorgi made contact, Toldo seized the opportunity to grab the second place and win the DSG class.
