Track Tec Racing will field two Audi RS 3 LMS cars in the inaugural season of the TCR New Zealand championship that will be run on a single event at Highlands Motorsport Park, Cromwell, 23/24 April.
Four-time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy and experienced international driver Chris van der Drift have been signed by the team to fight for the first TCR New Zealand title.

“I love jumping into new things and having a go. It’s a great category for emerging drivers and I’m keen to be involved,” commented Murphy who last drove a 2-litre racecar competitively in 1998, teaming up with Australian Russell Ingall in a Vauxhall Vectra in the Bathurst 1000. Having qualified fastest, the Murph/Ingall’s car retired after 83 laps.
“It’s going to be a great weekend of racing,” said Murphy. “There are a lot of people who have put a lot of effort into getting the category off the ground. I’ve done a few laps there and love the circuit. In a TCR car I expect that it will get pretty full-on and busy, but should offer up some really good racing, so I’m fortunate to be involved.”

Van der Drift’s racing resumé includes winning three European championships with Formula BMW, Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Masters. He has also successfully competed in A1GP, Superleague Formula and Formula Renault 3.5, and won the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia three times as well as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo.
“It will be the first time I have jumped into a front-wheel-drive race car,” said van der Drift. “Also, Highlands is one of the tracks that I haven’t raced on. That doesn’t really matter because I am going there to win anyway. I’ve had plenty of experience with learning new tracks so far, so I don’t see that lack of track time at Highlands will be an issue.”
