TCR México is quickly growing as the field reached the two figures on the occasion of the Speed Fest at Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
In the first race, Gerardo Nieto converted the pole position into a lights-to-flag victory at the wheel of his RE Motorsport second-generation Audi RS 3 LMS. Nieto pulled away from the rest of the field, leaving the CUPRA Leon VZ cars of Pablo Cervantes, Julio Rejón, Carlos Martínez, Luis Cervantes and Rodrigo Rejón fighting for the other podium positions. Rodrigo Rejón dropped soon out of contention when pitted with a puncture, while Pablo Cervantes held on to the second place and Martínez eventually overtook Julio Rejón for third.
Pablo Pérez de Lara who had replaced Nieto in the Audi led the second race from the start and was set to encore his co-driver’s success. However, Julio Rejón overtook Pablo Cervantes to move into second place and quickly closed the gap to the leader. After a four-lap safety car period, Rejón’s ProRally Mothers CUPRA passed Pérez de Lara’s Audi for the lead. The pair kept on fighting for the remaining five laps, until Rejón took the chequered flag five tenths ahead of his rival. Martínez completed the podium once again.
TCR México will resume on 5/6 October, with the 500km of Puebla counting towards the endurance series.
