Czech pair Petr Čížek and Vit Smejkal will be back competing in the TCR Eastern Europe series this year with Expres Auto Racing, with Čížek, the longest competing driver in the series, upgrading to the new CUPRA Leon VZ.
The team will continue to field CUPRA cars for both drivers, while Smejkal will participate with a partial programme, and in the older CUPRA Leon Competición model.
“We don’t really set specific goals for the season’s outcome. Our main aim is simply to make this season better than the last one,” explained the 49-year-old Čížek, who is still chasing his first victory in the series, despite finishing runner-up four times, three of which were at his home circuit, the Autodrom Most.
“I started my career in front-wheel-drive cars, and given my age, I guess I’ll probably finish with them too. I like TCR Eastern Europe for many reasons: for example, because of the promoter, Mr. Křenek, the fact that all the racetracks are relatively close to my hometown, and because the budget for competing is still manageable,”added Čížek.
