Uruguayan youngster Joaquím Cafaro will make his first appearance in TCR South America at next week’s race meeting at the Autódromo Polideportivo de Mercedes; he will also race in the series’ second event in Uruguay, at El Pinar on
The 19-year-old driver will be at the wheel of the fourth Peugeot 308 car run by PMO Racing, alongside the reigning champion Pedro Cardoso, Panama’s Luis Ramírez and Genaro Rasetto.
Despite his young age, Cafaro has already emerged as a raising talent, winning the national title in the 2023 Super Turismo. Last year he switched to the Argentine Turismo Nacionál, claiming three podiums on his way to finish fifth in the Class 2.
“I’m delighted to join TCR, a category that I have always watched with interest because I like its concept,” said Cafaro. “It’s great to race with the same cars that are competing in the World Tour and in so many championships around the world. I think this may open some doors for the future. I’m proud to defend Uruguay in these two events and I hope we’ll have a couple of good weekends with PMO Racing.”
