The Atlanta Speedwerks Honda Civic Type R set the fastest lap in the three-day official test of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Daytona International Speedway.
The Civic shared by Ryan Eversley, Todd Lamb and Greg Strelzoff was the only car to break the 2-minute wall, as Eversley posted a 1:59.805 in Sunday’s fifth session. The second, third and fourth fastest times had been set Friday in the first session by the Road Shagger Racing Audi RS 3 LMS (Jonathan Morley/Gavin Ernstone), the KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Tim Lewis/Roy Block) and the LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic (Mike La Marra/Matt Pombo).
Fifth fastest was the first of the Hyundai cars, the Van der Steur Racing Veloster N (Rory Van der Steur/Denis Dupont) that was followed by the VGMC Racing Honda Civic (Victor González/Rubén Iglesias), both these cars posted their best lap in Friday’s session 2.
On its maiden appearance of the new Hyundai Elantra N struggled to set good lap times. The Bryan Herta Autosport #33 of Harry Gottsacker/Mark Wilkins posted its best lap of 2:02.229 in Saturday’s session 3, while the sister car of Parker Chase/Ryan Norman completed only three laps without clocking any valid time.
Action will resume on Wednesday, 27 January, with a 60-minute practice session in view of the season opener, a 4-hour race that will take place Friday, 29 January.
